So remember that spiral staircase in the back corner of our living room? Well, it goes up to a library, one of my favorite features of the house
There's a second fireplace up there and built-in shelves to the ceiling. All the windows in this house go from floor to ceiling and I love all the light they let in (Although, what kind of blinds or curtains does one put on a slanted window like that? I'd love your ideas)It doesn't look like a lot of shelves, but in the past we used three huge Ilea expedit shelves and couldn't fit all of our books, so they fit a lot more than you'd think.
It's hard to see in this picture, but on one side next to the staircase, there's a small window overlooking the entryway
And the opposite side is open to the living room. Through that door is a small office that overlooks the master bedroom (which is a little weird)
eventually I'll get around to organizing all the bookshelves and perhaps one day, we'll even have some cozy chairs up there, but it's not happening any time soon. For now I'm just happy to have space for all of our books to be shelved together with a little room to grow.

I'm so jealous of your library! Someday we'll have a library and a music room ...
Hi. I'm a friend of Larry's from midde/high school...way back in the day. Love your style and how creative you are! Wanted to respond do your question about your slanted window. What about a honeycomb shade? http://www.hunterdouglas.com/our-products-detail.jsp?id=6
It looks like it will help provide coverage (maybe not the whole window), but also looks like it might go well with the clean and crisp lines of your beautiful home. :)
