Sooner or later Larry will actually have some time off. Since we're on a budget, I'm thinking we're going to go for a good, old fashioned road trip and we'll bunk with relatives along the way. There is surprisingly little within reasonable driving distance of Salt Lake so our options are limited. So far we're toying with the idea of heading to visit Larry's mom in Southern California. Of course we'd have to stop in Las Vegas along the way.
And if we're in Southern California, we might need to visit Mickey's home, right?Any other suggestions for things to do in Las Vegas or Southern California? Any tips for visiting Disneyland? Any roadsides stops along the way that we should check out? We'd love some advice!
I am grew up in Vegas, and although its not very family friendly anymore ("What happens in vegas, stays in vegas" is the new slogan) There are some fun things to see. My fav. is the Bellagio, with the water show(free), flower gardens(free), and there is an art museum inside, last time we went there was Monet display(not free). The Venetian has the Gondalas on the canal which is fun to see(free to look at(. FAO Swartz in the Ceasars Palace Forum Shops(huge piano like in the movie BIG-and free). Also, my 2 year old LOVED the Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay. (not free). Feel free to email me if you have any questions!
ReplyDeleteThe zoo and wild animal park are always awesome. There are also museums in San Diego that are free on Tuesdays. I think depending on which tuesday of the month, that determines which museum is free that day.
ReplyDeleteYou could visit Santa Barbara and stay at our place! It's teeny and your welcome to it!
ReplyDeleteTell Larry that I'm sure my dad could get you guys a place to stay in Vegas. Our favorite places in Vegas are: The Bellagio (water show, botanical gardens, mosaic tiles, gelato shop), Caesar's Palace Forum Shops (giant fish tank, FAO Schwarz) and The Mirage (dolphins). As for California....Dodger Game, Tito's Tacos, Balboa Island, Ruby's Diner on the Balboa pier, Newport Beach and the original In-N-Out. I hope you have fun!
ReplyDeleteI like to consider myself kind of an expert on "how-to-Disneyland" with a small child. So when you are prepping to go, just let me know and I will send you some good info! I am jealous! We are going in about a year, but that seems so far away. We had a lot of fun getting to know you guys this last weekend. Thanks for coming!
ReplyDeletei remember when my dad visited vegas years ago he thought the trip to Hoover Dam was fascinating. i'm thinking it's within and hour drive of Las Vegas.
ReplyDeleteOff the coast of San Diego is Coronado Island. The main street, and cute little downtown area is fun to walk through. Plus there is this ice cream shop (it has a big cow out front) that has the best ice cream and treats. The coconut ice cream is to die for, and I'm not even a fan of coconut normally.
ReplyDeleteIf you stop by Vegas we would love to see you. We even have a guest room, although my cousin just came down and got $25 rooms at the Four Queens. I think Vegas is hurting right now.
ReplyDeleteWe could even watch Creed so you and Larry can hit the town. If the weather is good you could go to Red Rock Canyon. Let us know if there is a show you want to see. Sometimes locals get half price tickets. (Not for the Osmonds though--still worth it)
Good luck planning your trip, and drop us an email if you need anything.
